William Erwin Eisner, dit Will Eisner, est un auteur de bande dessinée américain né le 6 mars 1917 dans le borough new-yorkais de Brooklyn et mort le 3 janvier 2005 à Lauderdale Lakes (Floride). Créateur du Spirit ainsi que du concept de « roman graphique » et de ses premières applications aux États-Unis, théoricien et directeur éditorial, c'est une figure majeure de la bande dessinée du xxe siècle et l'un de ses plus grands auteurs.

Je parle rarement, sur ce blog, des différents "doodle" (logos personnalisés) de Google car j'en trouve l'intérêt assez limité (l'intérêt d'en parler, pas les doodle eux-mêmes) et puis, d'autres sites les listent de façon quasi exhaustive et les annoncent à chaque nouveauté donc, je ne vois pas ce que je pourrais y apporter de plus...
A Contract with God
A Contract with God and Other Tenement Stories is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Will Eisner published in 1978. The book's short story cycle revolves around poor Jewish characters who live in a tenement in New York City. Eisner produced two sequels set in the same tenement: A Life Force in 1988, and Dropsie Avenue in 1995. Though the term "graphic novel" did not originate with Eisner, the book is credited with popularizing its use.
Spirit (comics character)
The Spirit is a fictional masked crimefighter created by cartoonist Will Eisner. He first appeared June 2, 1940, as the main feature of a 16-page, tabloid-sized, newsprint comic book insert distributed in the Sunday edition of Register and Tribune Syndicate newspapers; it was ultimately carried by 20 Sunday newspapers, with a combined circulation of five million copies during the 1940s. "The Spirit Section", as the insert was popularly known, continued until October 5, 1952. It generally included two other four-page strips (initially Mr. Mystic and Lady Luck), plus filler material. Eisner, the overall editor, wrote and drew most Spirit entries, with the uncredited assistance of his studio of assistants and collaborators, though with Eisner's singular vision a unifying factor.
